and another 500 miles...

So another little door-knocking adventure, but this time I was more prepared:
New snow-proof boots - to keep my little toes warm throughout the day
Scarf, hat gloves - to battle another "its going to be freezing warning"
Money - to ensure my half-way stop at Starbucks is coffee-filled

Lubika joined me - which made for a conversation filled couple of hours - greatly appreciate the company.

We took 6,542 steps
Raised $110 in donations

I have realized I need $130 in donations a week to reach my goal on time and was already $30 ahead - so due to the cold weather we stopped once I reached the weekly amount.

So again, thank you Lubica, my neighbours and all of you who donated.

I will most probably be out again next weekend - hopefully for a little longer to cover a few weeks at once - it would be nice to stop worrying about meeting the fund raising goals and start concentrating on training!

The next gig is set for March 13 - so Shane has begun to practice.

Will keep you updated on my progress later on...

I would walk 500 miles...

Through snow, extreme weather warning and the bitter cold!

I tried door-knocking around Milton to help with raising the $2500 required top participate in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. People were very generous - and the stop at Starbucks (our halfway point) was very much needed in order to warm our frozen feet. Again we were met with heart-felt stories of cancer survivors and the not so lucky - hearing the impact cancer has had on these people only makes me more determined to complete this journey.

So 7,983 steps later - and probably about 40 houses visited I am now $150 dollars closer to my fund-raising goal.

We be going out again on Sunday - hopefully we encounter more generous people.

Fund-Raising Event #1

Despite the snow storm there was a pretty good crowd at the Brickyard on Friday - and the troopers that made it out where out for a good time. The band was in great form - playing a repertoire of new songs of course the old favourites.

All-in-all a fabulous night - check out the footage of Shane's debut on guitar and other shots of the night.
And yes there was no training was out of the question on Saturday!

The Fifty-fifty draw escalated to almost $1000 dollars - with the lucky winner walking away with just under $500 dollars. Each team member who participated in the event received $118 dollars in donations.

I would like to personally thank Tammy for organizing the buffet/ venue and all the other bits and pieces needed for a successful fund-raising. Also the Brickyard Bar & BBQ for letting us host the event at their bar.

Missed out? Don't worry there is another gig on March 13th, 2009 - and yes, Shane may play another song or two.

Of all the days... really a snow storm?

The storm's arrival in Windsor early Friday led to the cancellation of some flights, and school buses weren't operating. (CBC)A major snowstorm is moving through southern Ontario Friday as the country's busiest airport ramps up staffing to handle crowds of holiday travellers, flight delays and cancellations.

The storm system will cover a swath of the province stretching from Windsor east to Kingston, and as far north as Peterborough, bringing snow and gusty winds.

It's expected to end late Friday afternoon after dumping 15 centimetres of snow.

Toronto and Niagara Falls could receive as much as 20 centimetres of snow, beginning in the morning. It will be blustery, as well, with winds gusting up to 60 km/h.

Brickyard Bash

Its that time already – the first Official Fundraising Event for the onTaRiO pEdAL pusherS is tomorrow. And the rumours are true – Shane Douglas Jolly will be performing during the evening.

In true Canadian-spirit there is an extreme snow-storm warning in place for Friday – the prediction is 30cm of snow on Friday and 50 cm over the course of the weekend.

Better warm up with a beer, good music and great company at the Brickyard!

Avoid the rush - donate online before the event.
